Breguet’s 225th Anniversary Collection Is Really About One Watch

14/09/2026

When a brand celebrates the 225th anniversary of the tourbillon, the expectation is usually straightforward: release something complicated, make it expensive, and remind everyone that Abraham-Louis Breguet invented one of watchmaking’s most famous mechanisms.

Breguet has certainly done the complicated and expensive part. There are four anniversary releases, including a platinum Marine with an equation of time, a flying tourbillon with an aventurine dial, and a Tradition Tourbillon with a fusée-and-chain transmission.

And yet the most important watch in the collection is the smallest one.

The new Classique Tourbillon 7357 is the watch that tells you where modern Breguet is heading.

The return collectors have been asking for

For years, enthusiasts have had a soft spot for the old 3350 and 3357 references designed during the Daniel Roth era. Those watches captured something that many later Breguet tourbillons struggled to replicate: compact proportions, a movement that felt purpose-built for the case, and a dial layout that looked unmistakably Breguet without trying too hard.

The 7357 brings that idea back without making it feel like a simple reissue.

The new movement, Calibre 187B, traces its lineage to the celebrated 558 architecture developed by Daniel Roth and Nouvelle Lemania, but Breguet says 41% of the components are new. That figure matters less than the result. The watch keeps the original spirit while gaining modern reliability, antimagnetic upgrades, a longer power reserve, and 30 metres of water resistance.

More importantly, it stays small.

At 35mm wide and 9.2mm thick, the 7357 feels almost rebellious in a market where even dress watches regularly creep past 40mm. A tourbillon this complicated should not wear this elegantly, but that has always been one of Breguet’s strengths when it’s at its best.

The case finally finds the right balance

Breguet’s recent Souscription models divided collectors because the brand removed the traditional coin-edge fluting that had become part of its identity.

The 7357 fixes that.

The fluted case band is back, now executed with hand-guilloché finishing, while the lugs adopt a slightly more modern profile. Purists will still miss the old Empire lugs, and I understand why. They had more character. The new lugs are cleaner and probably more practical, but they don’t have quite the same charm.

Still, this is the first time in a while that a modern Breguet case feels like it’s listening to both the design department and the collectors.

A movement worth looking at

Tourbillons often become visual spectacles and little else. The 7357 avoids that trap.

The redesigned bridge architecture gives the tourbillon a more integrated appearance, and the movement finishing introduces a new guilloché motif inspired by the landscape around Lac de Joux. It’s the sort of detail that most buyers will never notice immediately, but it rewards the owner who spends ten minutes staring at the caseback instead of checking the time.

The 2.5Hz beat rate remains, allowing the three hands mounted on the tourbillon cage to indicate 20-second intervals, and the movement now delivers 60 hours of power reserve.

For a watch rooted in a design from the 1980s, the technical package feels surprisingly current.

The other three releases

The rest of the anniversary collection is far from filler.

The Marine Tourbillon Équation Marchante ref. 5887PT is the most theatrical piece of the group. A platinum case, a hand-painted sapphire dial showing a bespoke night sky, a tourbillon, perpetual calendar, and equation of time all packed into one watch. At nearly €450,000 on a bracelet, it belongs firmly in the “if you need to ask” category.

The Classique Tourbillon Sidéral ref. 7255PT returns with a platinum case and a dark aventurine dial that shifts from black to deep green depending on the light. Breguet calls it black; collectors will spend the next six months arguing about that.

Then there’s the Tradition Tourbillon 7047PT, now dressed in vivid blue with a fusée-and-chain mechanism. It remains one of the few contemporary watches that lets you see a constant-force transmission working directly on the dial side, and the new colour treatment gives it a surprisingly modern edge for a mechanism that predates most countries.

The real story

What makes this anniversary interesting is that Breguet could easily have produced four flashy limited editions and called it a day.

Instead, the standout release is a compact, manually wound tourbillon that reconnects the brand with one of the most respected periods in its modern history.

That tells me Breguet understands something important: collectors aren’t asking for more tourbillons. The industry already has plenty of those. They’re asking for watches that feel connected to the brand’s own heritage rather than generic high-complication showcases.

The 7357 does exactly that.

Yes, it costs around €185,000 in Breguet gold and €203,000 in platinum, which places it deep into serious collector territory. But unlike many anniversary pieces, this one joins the permanent collection instead of disappearing after a few months.

And honestly, if I had to choose one watch from the entire launch, it wouldn’t be the bespoke Marine or the blue fusée-and-chain. It would be the 35mm tourbillon that brings Daniel Roth’s original idea back into Breguet’s modern catalogue.

After 225 years of tourbillons, that feels like the release that will matter long after the anniversary banners come down.
