The Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar Anniversary Edition: A Sky Full of Sparks

29/09/2025

There’s something about aventurine dials that just hits different. No matter how much you think you’ve seen in watches, the first time light bounces off those little metallic flakes and makes the surface look like a starry night sky, your brain goes: wow. And now Glashütte Original has joined the party, dropping an anniversary edition of its PanoMaticLunar with a full aventurine dial - and they didn’t hold back!

Why This Watch Exists

Glashütte, that small German town where half the brands you read about in watch magazines are based, is celebrating 180 years of watchmaking this year. GO decided to mark the occasion with something special: a platinum PanoMaticLunar, limited to 180 pieces, with a dial that looks like you’re staring into deep space. Anniversary editions can sometimes feel forced, but this one feels like a proper celebration.

The Dial That Steals the Show

The first thing your eyes lock onto is the aventurine glass dial. It’s a deep, cosmic blue with tiny copper-colored specks that shimmer like distant stars. The moonphase display gets the same treatment, but the moon itself is made from mother-of-pearl, which glows in a softer, more organic way. The big Panorama Date at 4 o’clock pops against all that sparkle without ruining the vibe.

GO kept the rest clean: white gold hands, slim white gold indices, and a touch of bright white printing. Everything’s placed in their signature off-center layout that makes the Pano line instantly recognizable. The way the subdials are slightly stepped down also gives it some depth, so it doesn’t just feel like a flat shiny surface.

 New Engine Inside

Now here’s the part that makes this edition more than “just another pretty dial.” This is the first PanoMaticLunar to get GO’s new Caliber 92-14. That means a 100-hour power reserve (over four days), a silicon balance spring for better reliability, and some movement upgrades trickled down from their bigger models.

Through the caseback, you see something that looks less traditional and more dramatic than usual: a dark grey finish across the three-quarter plate and rotor, with hand-engraved details in gold standing out like highlights. The contrast makes the decoration really pop, and the famous GO swan-neck regulator and engraving look even sharper against the darker background.

Case and Comfort

The case is platinum, which always brings a certain heft and glow that steel and gold just can’t match. It’s 40mm across and 12.8mm thick - a nice middle ground that works on most wrists. The lugs keep it under 47mm lug-to-lug, so while it’s not a dress watch in the strictest sense, it still carries itself elegantly. It comes on a dark strap (alligator or textile) with a platinum clasp to match.

Price and Availability

The price is €37,500, which is serious money but not out of place when you look at what platinum and aventurine usually cost in this space. A comparable Swiss piece with this much detail and precious metal would start higher 100%. Only 180 pieces will be made, and they’re available through GO boutiques and select retailers.

Final Thoughts

I love aventurine. It’s a cheat code for watch dials - you throw it on, and suddenly everyone in the room wants a closer look. What I like here is that GO didn’t just use it for the sake of having it. They paired it with their asymmetrical design, their Panorama Date, and a legit movement upgrade. It’s the kind of anniversary edition that doesn’t just feel commemorative, but also like a step forward.

Would I personally wear a watch this shiny every day? Yes, but I know that isn’t the norm. If someone walked into a room wearing one of these 180 pieces, I’d be staring at their wrist the entire time. And maybe that’s the point: a watch that captures attention without saying a word.
