Omega is introducing a new independent testing laboratory Laboratoire de Précision
The announcement of the Laboratoire de Précision by Omega is indeed a significant development in the accuracy certification landscape for watches. Until now, the Contrôle Officiel Suisse Des Chronomètres (COSC) has been the widely recognized certification for chronometers. However, with the establishment of the Laboratoire de Précision, Omega is introducing a new independent testing laboratory that will offer certification according to ISO/IEC17025:2017 standards.

The Laboratoire de Précision aims to provide not only increased accuracy in testing but also a continuous testing regimen throughout the 15-day period, as opposed to the current method of once every 24 hours. This new testing standard claims to have a measurement accuracy ten times higher than the industry standard. The laboratory will have two sites in Switzerland, in Bienne and Villeret, providing a combined space of almost 1000 sq.m. for chronometric testing.

What sets the Laboratoire de Précision apart is its neutrality and availability for all brands that wish to certify their watches there. Omega is positioning it as a neutral entity. This move not only ensures independent and reliable testing but also raises the bar for chronometric excellence as a whole.

It is worth noting that this development aligns with Omega's focus on technical advancements in watchmaking. In recent years, the brand has introduced innovations such as the Co-Axial Escapement and METAS certification, showcasing a commitment to improving accuracy and performance across its watch lineup.
