The World Time Underdog - JLC Geophysics Universal Time
When the Patek Philippe World Time ref. 1415 was released in 1939, it was considered one of the biggest breakthroughs in horological history. The revolutionary display of 24 time zones on a single dial was truly a sight to behold.
Since then, many brands tried to remake this masterpiece with their twist, but most of the attempts failed miserably.

One of the only exceptions is the beautiful creation from Jaeger LeCoultre known as the Geophysics Universal Time, which in many aspects successfully competes (and sometimes even beats) the legendary World Time by Patek.
So, let’s explore what makes this timepiece so different from the others of its kind…

The Geophysic Universal Time features a blue lacquered dial with a map of the world and 24 time zones. The map rotates in sync with the earth's rotation, so you can easily read the time anywhere by looking at the outer ring.
We think that is already quite a respectable addition to a world-time watch. What’s next?

The timepiece also has a true second (or dead-beat) complication, which means the second-hand jumps precisely every second, like a quartz watch, but with a mechanical movement.
Just to clarify - this is one of the hardest movements you can power a watch with. And let’s not forget they managed to put it in a world-time movement!
The watch is powered by the Jaeger LeCoultre calibre 772, which has a 40-hour power reserve and a Gyrolab balance wheel that reduces air friction.
The case is made of stainless steel and measures 41.6 mm in diameter, which makes it the perfect size for most wrists.
The watch comes with a black alligator leather strap or a steel bracelet.

In our opinion, Jaeger LeCoultre really hit a home run with the Geophysic Universal Time.
It is a watch that combines elegance, functionality, and class. We love how it’s perfectly suitable for the modern traveller who appreciates the beauty of the world and the wonders of science.
A way to go, JLC!
