Introducing Patek Philippe Cubitus 40 mm

The Cubitus Collection
Cubitus marks the first new collection from Patek Philippe in 25 years. The launch of these watches stirred a lot of anticipation and discussion. When the first three models were unveiled last October — a green dial with a steel case, a blue dial with a two-tone rose gold case, and a platinum calendar model with a blue dial (all 45mm in diameter) — it was clear that the Cubitus collection became one of the most talked-about releases of 2024.

The Cubitus in 40mm
While some saw the Cubitus as a bold move by Patek Philippe, others found the 45mm size too large and the square design, with a bracelet straight off the Nautilus and an unshaped movement inside, a bit lazy. Regardless of the opinions, it became clear that these watches would sell, and that smaller versions were likely on the way.
Surprisingly, only five months after the first release, Patek Philippe introduced the new, more compact 40mm models at Watches & Wonders 2025. The Cubitus 7128/1G and 7128/1R are now available in white and rose gold. The smaller versions still feature the same sunburst finish dial, with the white gold model sporting a light blue-gray hue and the rose gold version featuring a matching brown color.
The self-winding Caliber 26-330 S C/434 with a horizontally embossed pattern to match the dial sits in the square caseback and features hacking seconds. Both models come with matching precious metal bracelets, equipped with a lockable adjustment system and a patented fold-over clasp secured by four independent catches.
The retail price for both models is CHF 65,000.

Our Thoughts
For those who wished for a smaller Cubitus, it seems the wait was short! The swift release of these new 40mm models is an interesting move in Patek Philippe's product strategy. Typically, such changes come later, allowing the original models to maintain their spotlight. In these five months, how many of the first models have even been delivered?
Looking at these models from a purely product perspective, the smaller size certainly softens the bold design of the Cubitus and introduces a touch of elegance. These two models, featuring familiar Patek Philippe dial colors, are a safer choice both as a product release and for ownership. Perhaps that's why they came later — after introducing something polarizing, these versions seem much more conventional by comparison.
Patek Philippe states that these new models are designed to fit all wrist sizes, which may be a subtle nod to the large size of the original models. Will these become the dressier counterparts in the Cubitus family? Only time will tell once you get to see them in person.
